Regulation 4 Testing
Regulation 4 (also known as LA Chief’s Regulation 4) is a requirement for certain types of buildings in Los Angeles. The purpose of Regulation 4 testing is to ensure that fire safety, fire suppression, and fire detection systems are in good working order and are able to protect the building and its occupants in the event of a fire.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Reg 4 certification is required for buildings that are considered “high-hazard” or “essential services”. These include buildings such as hospitals, schools, high-rise buildings, and other facilities where a large number of people gather. Testing should be done by certified contractors and includes a comprehensive examination of the building’s fire safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, standpipes, and other fire suppression systems.
Reg 4 Testing is Required by the City of Los Angeles
Regulation 4 testing needs to be performed on a regular basis, although the schedule will depend on the type of building and its specific fire safety systems. Fire alarms must be tested annually, while sprinkler systems must be tested every five years. If any deficiencies are found during Reg 4 testing, they must be addressed and corrected.
