Regulation 4 Testing

Regulation 4 (also known as LA Chief’s Regulation 4) is a requirement for certain types of buildings in Los Angeles. The purpose of Regulation 4 testing is to ensure that fire safety, fire suppression, and fire detection systems are in good working order and are able to protect the building and its occupants in the event of a fire.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Reg 4 certification is required for buildings that are considered “high-hazard” or “essential services”. These include buildings such as hospitals, schools, high-rise buildings, and other facilities where a large number of people gather. Testing should be done by certified contractors and includes a comprehensive examination of the building’s fire safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, standpipes, and other fire suppression systems.

Regulation 4 Testing in Los Angeles

Regulation 4 testing needs to be performed on a regular basis, although the schedule will depend on the type of building and its specific fire safety systems. Fire alarms must be tested annually, while sprinkler systems must be tested every five years. If any deficiencies are found during Reg 4 testing, they must be addressed and corrected.

Listed below are some examples of fire safety systems that should be tested by certified experts:

The LAFD has been known to conduct random inspections of buildings to ensure Regulation 4 compliance. Buildings found to be out of compliance can face fines or penalties and may be closed until the necessary requirements have been met.

It’s important for building owners and managers in Los Angeles to stay up-to-date on the requirements for Regulation 4 testing and to work with certified contractors to ensure that their buildings are up to code. By properly maintaining and testing fire safety systems, owners can help to protect the safety of building occupants and can also help prevent damage to the building in the event of a fire.

We hired them to do the 5yr fire sprinkler test at both of our business locations in the city of Hawthorne. They provided us with a quote within minutes and the pricing was very reasonable. They came out the same week to service us. Workers were on time, polite and fast. We appreciate the service we received and will definitely be using them again in the future.
